In the summer of 2005, GVCF sent a team of twelve to spend a week doing short-term missions with Vineyard Central Mexico in Mazatlan, Mexico. Upon returning, we received an invitation to work with that same ministry in Reynosa, Mexico, which is just south of McAllen. Out of that invitation, our involvement in Reynosa was born.
Now GVCF sends teams to Vamos Tamaulipas, a low-income colonia in Reynosa, at least twice a year. As we continue to go, we are learning that short-term missions makes a long-term impact as relationships are built and developed over time. We believe Jesus is transforming the community in Vamos Tamaulipas as we feed the poor, invest in individuals one-on-one and provide community services as needed. We know names, faces and stories. A few of our friends have already met Jesus, and we anticipate more and more coming to know him as we continue to be involved.
Our teams are dynamic, made up of children and adults, men and women, couples and singles, all of us going together and investing our hearts and lives because we have caught a glimpse of Jesus transforming lives... ours and theirs.
The stories to tell are endless and beautiful. We will keep going until our friends in Vamos Tamaulipas are going themselves to other communities in Mexico to share the love of Jesus they've experienced... and then we'll go with them.
